Verizon Wireless reports strong Q4 with 1.2 mln postpaid customers added

(Telecompaper) Verizon Wireless said it had a strong finish to 2018, adding a net 1.2 million retail postpaid customers in the quarter. That included around 650,000 net phone additions, CEO Ronan Dunne told investors at the Citi 2019 Global TMT West conference.

Intel, Comcast lead cable industry efforts to deliver 10G broadband, Wi-Fi 6 in the home

(Telecompaper) Intel announced at CES 2019 that it has signed a new deal with Comcast to help bring 10 Gbps speeds and Wi-Fi 6 to homes. Under the deal, Intel will optimise its 8th Gen Intel Core processors for pCs to deliver Gigabit Wi-Fi from Comcast's xFi Advanced Gateways. The two companies will also work together to drive the adoption of Wi-Fi 6 in the home and develop a global standard for 10 Gbps.

Teleology pulls out of 9mobile, to exit shareholding - report

(Telecompaper) Teleology Holdings has expressed its dissatisfaction over the business relationship with 9mobile Nigeria and has decided to pull out of the project, two months after it received approval to take over 9mobile's operations as the preferred bidder, ThisDay reported. It said Teleology Holdings will be seeking to exit its shareholding in local joint venture Teleology Nigeria, which will be required to change its name. This will put the USD 50 million deposit paid for the acquisition of 9mobile  in jeopardy.

Samsung warns for lower revenues, profit in Q4

(Telecompaper) Samsung has announced its preliminary results for the fourth quarter, with both revenues and profit falling sequentially and year-on-year. Revenues for the fourth quarter are expected to fall to KRW 59 trillion from 65.46 trillion in the previous quarter and 65.98 trillion the year before. The operating profit is seen at KRW 10.8 trillion, a sharp decline from the 17.57 trillion recorded in the third quarter and 15.15 trillion reported the year earlier.

Xiaomi inks partnership, buys stake in TCL

(Telecompaper) Xiaomi has acquired a 0.48 percent stake in Chinese home appliance maker TCL, according to a statement made by TCL to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Xiaomi earlier signed a strategic partnership with TCL, with the aim of integrating smart devices with "core, high-end, and basic" electronic parts. The idea is to make it easier for TCL devices to integrate in Xiaomi's operating system. The partners may also make co-investments in the hardware field.
