Alibaba revenue growth improves to 51% in Q4, outlook cautious for new year

(Telecompaper) Alibaba's growth accelerated in the company's fiscal fourth quarter to March, showing little impact from the slowing Chinese economy. Sales were up 51 percent year-on-year to CNY 93.5 billion (USD 13.9 billion). Its core e-commerce business grew 54 percent to CNY 78.9 billion, while cloud computing was up 76 percent to CNY 7.7 billion. The net profit more than tripled, to CNY 23.4 billion from CNY 6.6 billion, thanks to valuation gains on investments.

OnePlus unveils new Pro model to target high-end smartphone market

(Telecompaper) OnePlus has unveiled its latest smartphone, including a standard OnePlus 7 and a 7 Pro model to target the premium segment. The basic phone starts at EUR 559, and the Pro version costs from EUR 709. The Pro model will ship from 21 May, and the OnePlus 7 is planned to launch in June.

Singtel's quarterly revenue grows 2% on consumer, digital businesses growth

(Telecompaper) Singapore operator Singtel saw its revenue increase by 2 percent year-on-year to SGD 4.34 billion in the fiscal fourth quarter ended 31 March. Revenue growth was mainly boosted by its consumer business and growing digital businesses. Pre-tax profits for the regional associates declined 20 percent to SGD 389 million due to Airtel's results, which were affected by competitive pressures, and the associates' higher depreciation, spectrum amortisation and network costs from the expansion of their 4G networks. Net profit, which included exceptional gains from Airtel, was stable at SGD 773 million.

Vodafone tightens its belt as it prepares to splash the cash in 2019

Vodafone Group issued its full year financial report on Tuesday, with revenues falling by 6.2 per cent to €43.66 billion, leading to an operating loss for the year of €951 million. In the build up to the publication of the figures, many analysts speculated that Vodafone would be forced to cut its dividend pay-out. Sure enough, on Tuesday morning Vodafone announced that it would be cutting its dividend from 15.08 cents per share to 9 cents per share. "We had weaker revenue growth progression as we went through the year and spectrum costs came out more expensive than anticipated and so the board took the decision – a decision that was not taken lightly – to rebase the dividend to 9 Euro cents per share. That was in order to rebuild our headroom and also support the transformation that we are going through as a group at this time. Comcast gives Disney control of Hulu, agrees buy-out option

(Telecompaper) Comcast has agreed to hand control of the OTT TV platform Hulu to Disney. The latter already owns a majority of the shares and will assume full operational control of Hulu, effective immediately.
