Play raises EUR 1 billion in IPO

(Telecompaper) Play Communications, the owner of the Polish mobile operator P4, has priced its initial public offering of shares, the largest IPO in the telecommunications sector in Europe since June 2015. The share price was set at PLN 36 (PLN 30.06 for authorised employees), well below the maximum indicated level of PLN 44. This puts the total value of the offering at PLN 4.4 billion (approximately EUR 1.02 billion).

AT&T plans media future after Time Warner acquisition

(Telecompaper) AT&T is planning for a more media focused future, Bloomberg reported, saying the company will redefine the role of CEO Randall Stephenson after it closes its acquisition of Time Warner for USD 85.4 billion. Although Stephenson will remain the top dog at the company, he will drop the title of CEO and become executive chairman, overseeing two new CEOs who will independently manage the company's telecom and media businesses, sources close to the matter said. Stephenson will focus on directing the company's new course as a media powerhouse.

Masmovil Q1 service revenues EUR 228 mln, up 17%

(Telecompaper) Spanish operator Masmovil reported service revenues of EUR 228 million in the first quarter of 2017, up 17 percent on a proforma basis from a year earlier. Recurring EBITDA more than doubled from a year earlier to EUR 45 million from EUR 20 million and the company reaffirmed its earnings guidance for full-year 2017.

Altice expands in Portugal with acquisition of Media Capital

(Telecompaper) Altice has agreed to buy Media Capital, a Portuguese media group with audience leadership positions in both TV and radio. The deal values Media Capital at EUR 440 million, and is expected to be immediately accretive to Altice's operating free cash flow. The transaction still has to be greenlighted by Prisa shareholders and to get the usual regulatory approvals.
