Verizon lets go of 10,400 employees under voluntary programme

(Telecompaper) Verizon Communications announced that about 10,400 employees have accepted to leave the company, under its voluntary redundancy and retirement offer. The company had 152,300 employees at the end of the third quarter.

Samsung unveils Galaxy A8s smartphone with 'punch hole' for front camera

(Telecompaper) The Galaxy A8s display fully covers the front of the device except for a small hole in the top left of the display for the camera, offering an alternative 'punch hole' to the increasingly popular 'top notch' on high-end smartphones. Accordingly, it delivers a wider viewing angle for users compared with currently available phones, Samsung said. The Galaxy A8s also features a 6.4-inch screen and 24-megapixel front camera, as well as three cameras on the back and a 3,400mAh battery.

Telia, Tele2/Telenor venture win 700 MHz licences in Swedish spectrum auction

(Telecompaper) Sweden has completed the first stage of its 700 MHz auction, raising SEK 2.82 billion. Telia as well as the Net4Mobility joint venture of Tele2 and Telenor each acquired blocks of 2x10MHz, while the third bidder, 3 Sweden, did not acquire any of the spectrum, the regulator PTS announced.

Qualcomm granted injunction against Apple sales in China

(Telecompaper) A court in China has sided with Qualcomm in its patent case against some Apple subsidiaries. The Fuzhou Intermediate People's Court in China has granted Qualcomm's request for two preliminary injunctions against four Chinese subsidiaries of Apple. The two patents had previously been found to be valid by SIPO, the Chinese patent office.

Softbank raises JPY 2.6 trillion in IPO of Japanese telecom business

(Telecompaper) Softbank Group has confirmed the sale of 1.7 billion shares in the initial public offering for its Japanese telecom business. At a price of JPY 1,500 per share, the IPO raised JPY 2.646 trillion (USD 23.4 billion) in gross proceeds for the company.
