Samsung launches SmartThings mesh Wi-Fi router, new smart home hub

(Telecompaper) Samsung Electronics announced a revamp of its SmartThings home range, with a new Wi-Fi router with mesh networking and an updated home hub. The new products launch first in the US, and include also a new motion sensor, plug and and button to control connected devices in the home.

India smartphone market grows 20% in Q2 as Xiaomi retains leadership

(Telecompaper) Smartphone companies shipped a total of 33.5 million units to India during the second quarter, resulting in healthy 20 percent year-over-year growth, according to data from IDC. The market researcher said growth was supported by a large number of online exclusive launches and strong shipments by offline vendors on the back of promotional activities and channel schemes.

United Internet maintains FY outlook as H1 sales grow 11%

(Telecompaper) Germany's United Internet has confirmed its full-year growth outlook after a solid increase in first-half results. Revenues rose 10.9 percent year-on-year to EUR 2.549 billion on a pro forma basis for its acquisitions of Strato and Drillisch, and EBITDA increased 10.8 percent to EUR 565.5 million on the same basis. For the full year, United Internet expects revenues to grow to EUR 5.2 billion and EBITDA of EUR 1.2 billion.

Telefonica Deutschland launches O2 unlimited data plan, new fixed-mobile offer

(Telecompaper) Telefonica Deutschland entered the next stage of its O2 freedom campaign with the launch of two new tariffs, O2 Free Unlimited and O2 my All in One, as of 21 August. The new unlimited mobile data plan and fixed-mobile bundle see the company follow rivals Vodafone and Telekom with its own sharply priced offers.

(Telecompaper) Deutsche Telekom, a heavyweight in our European telecoms index, reported last week. Along with it, two of its listed subsidiaries in Greece and Hungary, as well as competitors Freenet and QSC published their Q2 reports. The Italian market was dominated by operators' ongoing adjustments of their pricing, in response to the new reality of having Iliad as a new market entrant. In other news, the European wholesale markets featured, allowing several operators to expand their footprints. Our index ended week 32 down 1.3 percent, slightly outperforming the broader EuroStoxx 50 index's -1.6 percent. Intelsat extended its lead, after a weekly gain of 12 percent, to a year-to-date performance of no less than +622 percent.
