Facebook unveils Portal home video calls device with built-in Alexa

(Telecompaper) Facebook has announced its first major consumer hardware, the Portal video communications device. Available in 10- and 15-inch models, the desktop, tablet-like device is designed to facilitate video calls over Facebook Messenger from home or the office.

Invuo Technologies files bankruptcy application

(Telecompaper) Invuo Technologies, which runs the MeaWallet mobile payments system, has decided to file an application for bankruptcy as it is evident that the company has become insolvent. The filing covers the Swedish subsidiary Invuo Services but not other group companies.

Millicom acquires Panama's Cable Onda for USD 1 bln

(Telecompaper) Millicom has announced an agreement to buy a controlling 80 percent stake in Panamanian cable provider Cable Onda for a cash consideration of around USD 1.002 billion. The transaction values 100 percent of Cable Onda at an enterprise value of USD 1.460 billion and, subject to customary closing conditions and consent from Cable Onda's bondholders, is expected to close by the end of 2018.

Last week in telecoms: Italian auction taking a toll and Intelsat roaring ahead

(Telecompaper) Last week's telecoms news was dominated by two spectrum auctions, one in Finland and one in Italy. It resulted in generally lower shares prices, with quite a few stocks hitting a year low. Our European telecoms index lost 1.6 percent in week 40, the same as the EuroStoxx 50 index. But it didn't prevent Intelsal from reaching a new all-time high and a year-to-date gain nearing 900 percent.

KKR, Tencent invest in Philippines' m-payment specialist Voyager Innovations

(Telecompaper) Following the completion of the transaction, which is expected in the fourth quarter, PLDT will remain the majority shareholder of Voyager Innovations. The agreements also contain provisions for Voyager to issue additional shares to other investors which, if this were to occur, would reduce PLDT's ownership to less than 50 percent, while still remaining as the largest shareholder.
