HTC targets high-end VR market with new Vive Pro headset

Oculus partners Xiaomi to bring VR headset to China

(Telecompaper) Facebook's Oculus has partnered with Xiaomi to bring its virtual reality headsets to China. At CES, the company said Xiaomi will be its hardware partner for the global launch of Oculus Go. In addition, the companies jointly announced the Mi VR Standalone, a VR headset based on Oculus technology exclusively for the Chinese market.

Samsung Q4 operating profit grows more than 63%

(Telecompaper) Samsung Electronics expects its Q4 operating profit to grow 63.8 percent year-on-year to KRW 15.1 trillion (USD 14.1 billion). That compares to KRW 9.2 trillion in the fourth quarter of 2016, Samsung said in its preliminary report. Sales are expected to reach KRW 66 trillion for the three months ended 31 December 2017, which represents an increase of 23.8 percent year-on-year.

Asus unveils new Max smartphone with big battery, to launch VR headset in Q1

(Telecompaper) Asus announced that its mixed-reality headset developed with Microsoft will launch in the first quarter in North America. At CES, the company also unveiled a new smartphone for the North American market, the first in a new 'Max' series of phones with large battery capacity.

UPC to switch to Swisscom mobile network from 2019

(Telecompaper) UPC Switzerland will use Swisscom's network for its mobile services starting from 2019. The cable operator has offered mobile services using Salt's network since spring 2015, and since then has acquired over 100,000 customers. Now, UPC has decided to use Swisscom in the future, on the grounds that Swisscom offers the best Swiss mobile network, according to the Connect test.
