Apps make it easy to keep commuting on track

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has created a portal on its website for developers who want to create an app with timetables, service advisories, even crowd-sourced updates from riders on trains and buses. So far 86 apps, for Apple, Android and Blackberry devices have been created, covering every transit option from the Staten Island Ferry and New York City bus routes, to subway maps tailored for each borough.
