GX Lease Engineer

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The Inmarsat5 KaBand satellite system is starting service in 2014, and will provides a range of services to military and commercial users across the globe operating from small fixed, transportable and mobile platforms under the brand name of Global Express GX. A key component of the GX suite of services are high value leases provided to major Enterprise and Government level customers. These include whole transponder leases as well as the more standard PowerBandwidth lease products, handling both SCPC and iDirect style carriers. This post is for a full time Engineer to support this service, liaising with frequency planners to arrange satellite resource allocation and the NOC to address monitoring and operational issues. It also involves liaising directly with customers and end users of the service on technical and operational issues. In addition to this liaison and Engineering role, the Engineer will routinely monitor service performance to ensure that a high quality service is provided to all users of the system, and provide on call support for end user problems that are escalated to the Lease Engineering team by the NOC. The role requires a responsible and well organised individual with a good understanding of RF and modulation theory and strong verbal and written communications skills. A background in an operational environment would be useful, as would knowledge of military communications requirements. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Process all GX lease applications received from different business units, maintaining clear records of all applications and deadlines Work with the frequency and resource planners, to ensure that adequate resources are available to support these leases Prepare the NOC tasking order and customer lease authorisation documentation in support of each approved lease Liaise with the NOC and the end customer to perform end to end benchmarking tests when a new lease is brought into operation Liaise with the contracts and billing departments over leasing issues Provide third line technical support to customers, dealing with performance issues escalated to Lease Engineering by the NOC ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS University degree level education or equivalent in Engineering with appropriate RF, modulation and communications theory components A moderate amount of experience in engineering not necessarily in satellite communications although it is preferred A selfstarter who can prioritise and manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively as well as managing those under hisher control Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels Familiarity with MS office suite of software DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Experience in an operations environment Experience in a military communications environment but must have a university degree Familiarityexperience of communications monitoring systems and spectrum analysers Understanding of VSAT including iDirect and Gilat systems Commercial awareness
