Primary role purpose This role is to support the Satellite Resource and Performance Management teams in detecting, locating and addressing RF interference impacting on the reliable delivery of services to our customers and unauthorised use of Inmarsats radio resources. Most interference is accidentally generated due to equipment or operator error, but occasionally deliberate interference is experienced. In all cases it is necessary to detect that the issues are due to interference, then to isolate the source of the interference using a variety of tools and techniques. Once identified appropriate corrective measures are taken, including system reconfigurations and notification and liaison with the appropriate legal authorities. The role reports directly to the Satellite Resource Manager who is responsible for all frequency assignments and satellite configurations across Inmarsats fleet of satellites. Key Responsibilities Provision of secondthird line support to the NOC in identifying and diagnosing interferers at L, C and Ka band Operation of the L Band Geolocation System to locate the geographical source of interference Design and deployment of customised L Band beams to mitigate against the effects of interference Adaptation of logical spot beam maps to minimise the impact of interference Maintaining the departmental interference database Liaison with the JSpoC and the GCC to report interference events to key customers. Due to the nature of interference the post will involve provision of out of hours on call support. Essential Knowledge and Skills A strong first degree in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics At least five years experience of working in the telecommunications industry A strong analytical background and knowledge of RF A solid understanding of analogue and digital communications. Strong problem solving and analytical skills Good communication skills with people at all levels of the organization Desirable Knowledge and Skills A second degree in Engineering Security clearance from a NATO member nation A high degree of integrity Excellent writing and reporting skills Communication system and link analysis including budgets link, transmission etc.
