Maersk is hoping to expand the Jack field off the coast of Louisiana to 400,000 barrels of petroleum a day by 2020 For the first time in its history, the oil and shipping giant Maersk has begun producing oil from the US in the Gulf of Mexico, where it is doing so via deep-water offshore drilling another first for the Danish company. The oil is being extracted by a floating rig in 2,100-metre deep waters in the Jack oil field some 450 kilometres off the coast of New Orleans, Louisiana.
