Guardian: Electricity emissions have jumped since the repeal of the carbon tax, the Climate Council says. The council cites new data by consultants Pitt & Sherry, showing carbon dioxide emissions from the electricity grid went up 6.4m tonnes in the last financial year since the tax was axed. The increase of 4.3% has undone part of an 11% fall in emissions during the two years the tax was in place. A proposal to change the way consumers are charged for electricity in California could jolt the pocketbooks of poor customers and others who use less electricity. The state Public Utilities Commission on Friday is scheduled to vote on a massive restructuring of electricity rates that is expected to boost monthly bills at least $10 a month for 35 percent of residential electricity customers in California, including those served by San Francisco-based PG&E.
