Windows XP hold-outs pay attention. If you run the Java runtime on XP, it looks as if the current version is about as good as it gets. The next version, 7u65 and 8u11, due to ship in the middle of July, will not support or run on XP. Oracle hasn't announced this so much as sneaked out the information on its Java support site.

Sparc and Windows get more love in Oracle VM update

The latest release of Oracle's software for managing virtual machines offers the same set of features to Sparc users as to those who manage virtual machines on x86 servers. "With [Oracle VM] 3.3, a big part of the improvement is on the Sparc side," said Wim Coekaerts, Oracle senior vice president for Linux and virtualization engineering. "Both x86 and Sparc servers are on par in terms of functionality from the management console."

Micros Systems buys its Columbia HQ ahead of Oracle deal

Micros Systems Inc. has purchased its 267,624-square-foot headquarters at 7031 Columbia Gateway Drive ahead of its $5.3 billion acquisition by Oracle Corp. Cassidy Turley, which represented seller Columbia Property Trust Inc., did not disclose the sale price.
