Lawsuits challenge railroad's authority to OK oil pipeline

The U.S. government began handing out land to railroads to encourage their development more than 150 years ago, but there are still questions about how much control those companies have over the land. Union Pacific is facing several lawsuits related to whether a railroad it acquired years ago had the authority to allow an oil pipeline to be built along its tracks in six states and who is entitled to the royalties that are now worth more than $14 million a year.

NEMA hails final passage of trade promotion authority.

NEMA welcomed final passage by the U.S. Senate of the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015, which sets market-opening objectives for U.S. international trade negotiations and establishes a transparent process for Congress to advise on and consider implementation of any trade agreements negotiated by July 1, 2018. Following 60-38 vote, the act now goes to President Barack Obama for his signature.

Port Authority says $1 NJ Transit lease renegotiated for $875K

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says it has reached agreement on a lease for a park-and-ride lot near the Lincoln Tunnel that once went for $1 a year. Authority chairman John Degnan on Thursday said a tentative agreement has been reached with New Jersey Transit.
