Tar from the Santa Barbara oil spill washed up at least as far away as a Los Angeles County beach last month, according to test results released Monday. The findings confirmed what was suspected by many after globs of oil began swamping Southern California beaches in the weeks after a pipeline dumped up to 101,000 gallons of crude oil on the coast May 19. Goo that washed up on beaches east and south of Santa Barbara was sent to labs for "fingerprint" analysis to determine if it came from the Plains All American Pipeline spill or from oil that seeps naturally from the seabed.

The company has issued a voluntary recall of all cold-smoked salmon manufactured at the Santa Barbara processing plant between March 1 and April 8. As federal regulators moved to speed up what has become the largest automobile recall in U.S. history, the nation's car dealerships, car owners and mechanics scrambled to cope with a sudden need for new air bags.
