Key objectives of this position include We are looking for an engineer to work at a client site to support the operations and ground segment implementation activities at a control centre for ISS payload operations. Objective After becoming familiar with the project organization, the involved parties and with the space and ground segment of the mission, the engineer shall support operations preparation, operations execution, and project management activities at the ISS Payload Operations Centre. This post will involve handson activities on payload operations and operations support systems, as well as insight into the coordination and management of payload projects. Responsibilities Duties The activities to be performed within the framework of this post include Payload operations preparation and operations support, which includes the operations of ISS payloads, as well as their ground and flight models Provision of support to the planning of ISS Increment activities taking into account the various planning requests as well as operational rules and constraints Coordination of Training activities, and participating in the ESA and NASA training and simulation activities Providing support to the project management of the operations centre, including reporting, configuration control and maintenance of management databases Support to ground segment maintenance and configuration activities. All these activities are to be performed within the context of an operational control center, implying that all of the above listed activities need to be coordinated with the control center operations team and with external partners and service providers. Qualifications Experience We are looking for a motivated engineer aerospace engineering or similar with a solid background in space systems and programmes. The current position is to join the system engineering team to support the Atomic Clock Ensemble in Space ACES and AtmosphereSpace Interaction Monitor ASIM payloads, two research payloads under development for the external platform of the Columbus lab. Our company is responsible for supporting ESA in System Engineering for these payloads. The work will be performed in our offices in Noordwijk, The Netherlands, close to ESTEC. The position will include the following tasks and responsibilities Providing system engineering support to ESAs technical officers for the development activities and verification of the subject payloads. Supporting the technical officer in defining and implementing the functional requirements. Elaborating and proposing corrective actions and solutions for identified technical problems in payload development projects. Definition and maintenance of top level system requirements documents. Review and clarify launch vehicle interface requirements. Monitoring and coordinating AIT activities and interface verification at industry. Qualifications and Experience Applicants should have a University degree in an engineering discipline or in physics. Candidates are required to have following skills Knowledge of the ISS environment for scientific payloads. Knowledge of ISS boundary conditions and product assurance and safety procedures. Preferably 5 or more years experience in the science payload space flight domain and at the least one of the following field electrical electronic thermal software engineering. Knowledge of the requirements definition and verification process for scientific payloads. Management of external hardware software interfaces for payloads definition, control, verification. Experience in managing payload development projects and in defining requirements linked to the individual phases of the project. Experience in organisation of technical reviews for development projects. Experience in interfacing with industry, academia and national and international organisations, would be an advantage.
