Retail sales of towable RVs climbed 6% in November from a year ago and 9.3% for the first 11 months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. a Sales for the high-volume travel trailer sector grew 8.1% for the month and 11.3% year-to-date. Forest River Inc. was the towable sales leader through November with a 36.5% market share, edging out Thor Industries Inc. which captured a 36.2% share.

American consumer confidence reached a seven-year high last week as job gains and plunging fuel costs propelled the economy and boosted spirits in the midst of the holiday-shopping season. The Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index increased to 41.3 in the period ended Dec. 7, its highest since December 2007, from 39.8 the week before.

Car sales hit growth path in Nov after two months of decline

The domestic passenger vehicle industry has managed to put a brake sliding sales after two months as a combination of factors including lower fuel price and uncertainty over extension of excise cuts next year resulted in improved sales in November. Car sales grew by 9.5% last month over the previous year, offsetting the 6.8% decline in the sale of multi-utility and sports utility vehicles.
