Maker of U.S. Highway Guardrails Stops Shipments

Railcar maker Trinity Industries Inc said on Friday that it would stop shipping a highway guardrail system, after the U.S. government demanded earlier in the week that the company conduct more crash tests of the product. The system was banned by Nevada in January, Massachusetts and Missouri banned it in September, and Virginia this month threatened to stop buying it over concerns that it can impale drivers in the event of a crash.

Oklahoma Stops Installing Guardrails From Texas Firm After Federal Lawsuit Judgement

Several states have pulled a certain type of guardrail off a list of qualified products they use after a jury found a Texas company should pay $175 million in a case involving the safety of thousands of guardrails across the U.S. The verdict against Trinity Industries was handed down Monday in federal district court in Marshall, Texas. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says the ET-Plus guardrails in question were installed across the state, but does not have an exact number of how many.

Wireless Service Coming to 29 Queens Subway Stops

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Transit Wireless say 29 Queens stations will have the service by the end of the year. Eleven more Manhattan stations are also set to get the service including stops near Grand Central, Herald Square, and Bryant Park.

UPS Launching Service To Cut Down on Delivery Stops

United Parcel Service on Wednesday said it is launching a service which will boost e-commerce profitability by cutting down on delivery stops, allowing customers to pick up their packages at dry cleaners, convenience stores and pharmacies. Called "Access Point," it is designed for people who work, as well as those who live in big cities, where packages left on doorsteps could be stolen.

Milwaukee man stops breathing on plane, dies

Authorities say a Milwaukee man died at General Mitchell International Airport after he stopped breathing while on board a flight from Las Vegas. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office says 46-year-old Mark Hensiak was on a Southwest Airlines flight when he became unresponsive and stopped breathing.
