Future System Engineer Architect

We have been selected by ESA as Prime Contractor for the development of a complex infrastructure to support space missions, the future of all ground segments for European space. The system is under development involving a large consortium across Europe. We are looking for candidates to will become part of the System Architecture Team SAT, in charge of the system engineering and the architectural solution of the system, guiding implementation teams. You will be mentored by experienced system engineers architects and given time to gain the necessary knowledge of system engineering and the specific technologies. We will give you the necessary support to develop into a recognized system engineer architect. The successful applicants will become a member of the Software Solutions Department, based in our Headquarter in DarmstadtGermany. ResponsibilitiesDuties Contribute to the system level engineering for future releases, ensure coherence between system level and component level design across the entire system Analysis of change requests and provision of solutions at system level in cooperation with the other MCT member Identification, analysis and resolution of potential gaps between the system requirements, design and component implementation Analyse and resolve system level issues raised by the component suppliers andor the integration and validation team Review Test and Validation Plans at system and component level to ensure consistence and coherence Technical management of the contribution of the component developers, proactive monitoring and tracking of progress, escalating in case of schedule conflict Acceptance of component deliverables from subcontractors Ensuring the system level engineering is conducted in line with the applicable processes, standards and guidelines defined for the project Contribute to the evolution of the project engineering standards and guidelines Ensuring appropriate quality, risk and configuration management through continued monitoring and evaluation of contributions from the subcontractors. QualificationsExperience A degree in computer science, physics, mathematics, or equivalent Initial experience with software system level engineering. Summary An opportunity for an experienced PayloadInstrument Engineer to work for Telespazio VEGA onsite at ESTEC. Objective To provide support to laboratory based validation activities in support of the development of the instrumentation for future space science missions. Responsibilities Duties Duties will include but not limited to Design of lownoise analogue and digital electronics as required for the implementation of payload validation activities. This aspect of the work has a particular emphasis on imaging detector readout electronics Manufacturing and test of electronic circuits Supporting electronic system, components and electrooptical sensor characterisations in the sections laboratories Development of firmware and instrument control and readout software The secondary tasks include Supporting the development and maintenance of the technical infrastructure needed to validate payload technologies Generally supporting department activities contributing to the elaboration and implementation of the Science Programme technology development plans Evaluation of proposals in response to calls for missions, participation in reviews, payload expertise in support of system studies Qualifications Experience Master or PhD or equivalent in electronics engineering. Several years of handson academic andor industrial experience in the design, manufacturing, testing and performance analysis of noiseoptimised electronic circuits, preferably in the space domain. Demonstrable expertise in lownoise analogue, highspeed digital techniques and mixedsignal circuits, preferably in the field of image sensors, is mandatory. Handson experience with such electronic designs and relevant PCB CAD and simulation tools. Knowledge of space science instrumentation technology, electrooptical characterisation, cryogenics, andor the design considerations for spacebased payloads would be an asset. Tasks and Responsibilities The Department of ISS and Exploration in the Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Robotic Exploration HRE is responsible for the preparation and implementation of the future exploration programme, including the development of technologies required for the future exploration missions. This includes the identification of technology requirements and the planning, coordination and management of the associated Technology Development Activities TDAs that are conducted by the European space industry. The future technologies engineer would be joining a small team currently responsible for the management of the Mars Robotic Exploration Preparation Programme. The principal tasks of the Future Technologies Engineer will include Support to the preparation of Technology Development Plans TDPs to be submitted to IPC for approval. 1. Participation in systems studies to understand the technology requirements coming from mission designs. 2. Planning and implementation of the TECNET process for defining Technology Development Activity proposals. Technology activity management both with a leading role and an interface role as de facto TO and ITO for exploration TDAs as well as relevant TDAs from other programmes, e.g. Science. TDP Implementation Management 1. Responsible for the overall TDP implementation planning and scheduling in close coordination with the project controller and contract officer. 2. Requirements Applicants should have a postgraduate Masters or PhD degree in Engineering or physics. This post is highly diverse and technical in nature and therefore requires the candidate to ideally have more than 10 years of experience in the field of space technology Knowledge in technical fields related to spacecraft hardware on exploration missions is highly desirable, and a willingness to learn about new technologies is essential Experience with space hardware, in particular past handson experience in development and testing Enthusiasm for space and in particular planetary exploration together with a drive to achieve results are considered to be very valuable to the team. The candidate should have the demonstrated interest and ability of taking the initiative to get the job done when necessary. Effective communication skills are essential to the post in order to interface with colleagues within ESA and with external partners, in particular European industrial contractors.
