Italian state bank confirms intention to buy 5% TIM stake

(Telecompaper) Italian state lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) announced that its board approved a plan to acquire a stake of up to 5 percent in Telecom Italia (TIM) at a current market price of around EUR 600 million with a view to safeguarding the country's interests in a company regarded as strategic and whose leading shareholder is France's Vivendi, with a stake of just under 24 percent. "Such an investment falls under CDP's mission of supporting national strategic infrastructures and aims to help ... the company's development path ... in a crucial sector," said the bank, according to Reuters.

Orange Belgium confirms interest in Voo takeover

(Telecompaper) Orange Belgium has confirmed its interest in a merger with cable operator Voo. Following a report in business daily L'Echo, the company issued a statement confirming it's informed Voo's parent companies Nethys and Brutele about its "interest in an industrial partnership", which has the backing of Orange group.

US FTC confirms investigation launched into Facebook privacy practices

(Telecompaper) The US Federal Trade Commission has confirmed it's launched an investigation into privacy practices at Facebook. In a short statement, the FTC's acting director of consumer protection, Tom Pahl said the regulator takes "very seriously" the recent press reports about Facebook's handing of user data.
