Broadcom swings to profit

Broadcom Corp. swung to a profit in the third quarter, driven by growth in its broadband and connectivity business and cost-cutting as it moves to close its cellular-chip business. The semiconductor company said in July it was cutting about 2,500 jobs as it winds down its cellular-chip business.

Broadcom (NASDAQ: BRCM) has reported results for its third quarter ended September 30, 2014. Net revenue for the quarter was $2.26 billion. This represents an increase of 5.3% compared with the $2.15 billion reported for the third quarter of 2013.

Broadcom (NASDAQ: BRCM) has introduced advanced G.fast capabilities for its BCM63138 gateway SoC to allow telcos to deliver Gigabit-class services to subscribers. The G.fast digital subscriber line (DSL) standard is capable of supporting data rates in excess of 1Gbps.
