TomTom sells Telematics to Bridgestone for EUR 910 mln

(Telecompaper) TomTom has sold its Telematics division to tire manufacturer Bridgestone for EUR 910 million. Of the total, EUR 750 million will be distributed to shareholders by means of a capital repayment, as well as by share consolidation. The capital repayment will not be subject to Dutch dividend withholding tax. The sale is expected to close by the end of the second quarter, followed by the execution of the capital repayment and share consolidation in the third quarter.

Netflix adds 8.8 mln subscribers in Q4, amid lower profit and record negative free cash flow

(Telecompaper) Netflix added 8.84 million paid subscribers in the fourth quarter, including 7.31 million outside of the US. The total number of customers now amounts to 139 million. Expenses for original content went to EUR 3.78 billion for the quarter and EUR 13.0 billion for all of 2018. Netflix kept its margin expectations and showed it wants to make its own films just as successful as its own series. Revenues for the quarter rose by 27 percent, but profit fell due to sharply higher spending on marketing, R&D and interest. Cash outflow increased due to increased investments in original content.

(Telecompaper) IBM and Vodafone Business are creating a new venture that will provide companies across Europe and beyond with the open, flexible technologies they need to integrate multiple clouds and prepare for the next wave of digital transformation enabled by AI, 5G, edge and software defined networking (SDN). The new venture will be operational in the first half. Under the new venture, Vodafone Business customers will immediately have access to the full portfolio of IBM's cloud offerings, underpinned by IBM's deep industry expertise and open technologies.

T-Systems hands mainframe services over to IBM in deal worth EUR 860 mln - report

(Telecompaper) Deutsche Telekom subsidiary T-Systems is handing its mainframe services over to IBM, reports Handelsblatt. In May, 400 employees in six countries will join the US IT company, according to an internal statement seen by the newspaper. T-Systems stated officially that the transaction was not a sale of the business unit, the website Golem.de reported.

T-Mobile US adds record 2.4 mln customers in Q4, beats FY postpaid guidance

(Telecompaper) T-Mobile US announced that it set a new record in quarterly customer additions in the fourth quarter of 2018, growing by 2.4 million to a total of 79.65 million customers at the end of the year. Over the full year, the customer base grew by 10 percent or just over 7 million customers. Branded postpaid net additions totaled 1.4 million in the quarter, taking the total annual growth to 4.5 million, better than the company's already improved guidance.
