CBS raises OTT subscriber targets, sees 16 mln subs by 2022

(Telecompaper) US broadcaster CBS has raised its subscriber target for its over-the-top streaming services. The company said the services CBS All Access and Showtime OTT are "greatly exceeding our expectations" and should reach 8 million subscribers in 2019, a year earlier than planned. By 2022, the company targets 16 million subscribers for the services in the US.

Huawei ships 95 mln smartphones in H1

(Telecompaper) Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG) announced it shipped more than 95 million smartphones in the first half of 2018. This puts the company on track to exceed last year's full-year shipments of 153 million. Huawei said already in July that it passed 100 million shipments in the year to date.

T-Mobile US again ups FY forecast after 'best' Q2, addition of 1.6 mln customers

(Telecompaper) The full number of net additions went to 1.579 million, taking the total to 75.619 million at the end of June. The figure includes 686,000 branded postpaid phone customers, and 331,000 postpaid other devices such as wearables. The number of branded prepaid net additions was flat year-on-year at 91,000 due to sharp competition. Postpaid phone churn meanwhile went to a low of 0.95 percent from 1.07 percent the year earlier, while prepaid churn slipped to 3.81 percent from 3.94.

Vodacom Group revenue up 4.2% in June quarter, adds 2.5 mln customers

(Telecompaper) Vodacom Group reported revenue for its fiscal first quarter ended 30 June up 4.2 percent to ZAR 21.55 billion. Service revenue also increased by 4.2 percent, to ZAR 17.81 billion, and was up 5.2 percent excluding currency effects.

MTN sells Cyprus unit to Monaco Telecom for EUR 260 mln

(Telecompaper) MTN Group has agreed to sell its Cyprus unit to Monaco Telecom for about EUR 260 million. MTN Cyprus is MTN's only operating business in the EU, and was acquired as part of MTN Group's acquisition of telecoms holding company Investcom in 2006. It falls outside the group's core footprint of Africa and the Middle East.
