Amazon says over 4 mln started Prime service in Xmas week

(Telecompaper) Amazon said over 4 million people trialed its Prime service over the Christmas holiday. In one week alone, more than 4 million customers started Prime free trials or began paid memberships, gaining access to free delivery on the e-commerce site and a range of other services such as Prime Video.

Invuo agrees to sell SEQR to Glase for SEK 8 mln

(Telecompaper) Invuo Technologies, which used to be called Seamless Distribution, has announced an agreement with Swedish company Glase FinTech to sell its SEQR division for SEK 8 million paid in cash. The transaction is scheduled to take place before the end of 2017, when SEQR and all associated costs are taken over by Glase. By selling SEQR instead of winding it down, Invuo expects a cost saving of around SEK 20 million.

Italy fines TIM, Wind Tre, Vodafone and Fastweb EUR 1.16 mln each for 28-day bills

(Telecompaper) Italian communications regulator Agcom has fined the operators Telecom Italia (TIM), Wind Tre, Vodafone and Fastweb a total of EUR 1.16 million each for calculating fixed line invoices on the basis of a 28-day period and overcharging customers over 12 months. In a statement, the watchdog said it had decided to apply the maximum fine provided by law for failure to comply with its order to abolish 28-day fixed-line telephony and convergent bills with a view to "ensuring maximum transparency and comparability of current prices, as well as control of consumption and spending by means of a standard (monthly) unit of reference."

Amazon agrees EUR 100 mln settlement in Italian tax case

(Telecompaper) Amazon has become the latest US internet giant to agree to a multimillion euro payment to settle its tax affairs in Italy after the local tax authority announced a deal to settle a long-running dispute. In a statement, Italy's Agenzia delle Entrate confirmed that the company has agreed to pay EUR 100 million to settle outstanding tax claims dating from 2011 to 2015. The deal meant the case was now closed, paving the way for "the correct taxation in Italy for activities related to our country," said the agency. Amazon subsequently added: "We have reached an agreement with the tax authorities on historical matters and remain focused on providing a great shopping experience for our customers in Italy, where we have invested more than EUR 800 million since 2010 and created over 3,000 jobs."

Deutsche Telekom, EWE set up FTTH jv to deliver broadband to 1 mln homes

(Telecompaper) Deutsche Telekom and German regional utilities provider EWE have signed a declaration of intent to establish a joint venture to expand the fibre-optic network in northwestern Germany and deliver broadband internet to over 1 million households via FTTB/FTTH. The two companies will each own hold a 50 percent stake in the planned joint venture, which will invest up to EUR 2 billion in network expansion over a ten-year time frame in the states of Lower Saxony, North-Rhine Westphalia and Bremen. The joint venture will prioritize rural areas in these states when its planned operations begin in mid-2018.
