Vodafone Italia launches EUR 90 mln Milan 5G project

(Telecompaper) Vodafone Italia has officially inaugurated its project to test 5G technologies via the 3.6-3.8 GHz band in the city of Milan. At an event held in the Palazzo Marino city hall and attended by mayor Giuseppe Sala and Italy's undersecretary for economic development in charge of telecommunications Antonello Giacomelli, the company's CEO Aldo Bisio said Vodafone will be working with a total of 28 partners on the EUR 90 million trial to test the full potential of 5G. The network will cover 80 percent of the city and surrounding metropolitan areas by the end of next year and 100 percent by 2019.

3M sells Communications division to Corning for USD 900 mln

(Telecompaper) 3M is exiting the telecom networks market and selling substantially all of its Communication Markets division to Corning for USD 900 million. The business includes optical fibre and copper passive connectivity products, including 3M's xDSL, FTTx, and structured cabling products and, in certain countries, telecommunications system integration services. The business has annual global sales of around USD 400 million.

AT&T signs up 1 mln customers for DirecTV Now OTT service in first year

Telia agrees to buy NextGenTel mobile B2C customers for up to NOK 95 mln

(Telecompaper) Telia Company said it has reached an agreement with NextGenTel to acquire slightly more than 34,000 B2C mobile customers and roughly 4,000 B2C mobile broadband customers. Telia said the deal is expected to close in early 2018 whereas NextGenTel said it was likely to be during June. NextGentel said the purchase price is a minimum of NOK 75 million and a maximum of NOK 95 million, depending on the number of customers actually migrated

Nokia wins USD 137 mln arbitration award in BlackBerry licensing dispute

(Telecompaper) Nokia has won USD 137 million in back licensing payments from BlackBerry in a ruling by the International Chamber of Commerce's International Court of Arbitration. has ruled against the company in a contract dispute with Nokia Corporation. BlackBerry said it accepts the decision but is continuing with a separate case of patent infringement against Nokia.
