EC orders Amazon to pay EUR 250 mln in back taxes

(Telecompaper) The European Commission has ordered Amazon to pay back EUR 250 million in unpaid takes after ruling that it benefited from illegal state aid from Luxembourg. The decision, which confirms recent reports, follows a three-year probe into tax arrangements between the US online retailer and Luxembourg, with the European Commission having already ruled that the 2003 sweetheart deal "constituted state aid". In a statement, EU competition commissioner Margrethe Vestager said Luxembourg's "illegal tax advantages to Amazon" had allowed almost three-quarters of the company's profits to go untaxed, meaning it paid four times less tax than rival local companies.

Roku prices IPO at top of price range, raises USD 219 mln

Canyon Bridge buys Imagination for GBP 550 mln

(Telecompaper) Canyon Bridge's CBFI Investment has agreed to buy Imagination, in a cash transaction valued at GBP 550 million. The company put itself up for sale in June, after starting a sales process for its MIPS and Ensigma operations in May. The decisions were taken after news in April that Apple stopped using Imagination as a supplier.

Samsung sets up USD 300 mln automotive investment fund

The Samsung Automotive Innovation Fund has an initial USD 300 million, and its first investment is USD 75 million in TTtech, a specialist in the integration of automotive safety and control systems that works closely with Audi.
