Open Fiber reaches 2 mln Italian homes, aims for 2019 IPO

(Telecompaper) The Open Fiber wholesale-only venture of Italian utility giant Enel and state lender CDP has already reached the milestone of 2 million homes connected to its fibre-optic network and is on course for an IPO in 2019, reports Milano-Finanza, citing the company's CEO Tommaso Pompei. "The cabling work is proceeding and we have already reached 2 million homes in Areas A and B, that is, those that are most profitable for operators," said Pompei at the sidelines of a conference in Cernobbio. One million of those connections derive from the Metroweb network acquired by Open Fiber a year ago, but the rest correspond to newly-built lines in cities such as Padua, Perugia and Naples.
Telefonica Colombia confirms EUR 1.8 bln capital hike, pays EUR 472 mln fine

(Telecompaper) Telefonica announced that it has come to an agreement with the Colombian government to increase the capital of its subsidiary Colombia Telecomunicaciones (Coltel) by around EUR 1.37 billion to pay debt owed to asset management fund Parapat. The company said its capital injection into ColTel will amount to around EUR 925 million and will fully settle its obligations with Parapat, the consortium that owns the telecommunications assets and manages the pension funds of the former companies that resulted in Coltel. Telefonica and the Colombian government also announced a further EUR 472 million capital increase in proportion to their respective stakes to comply with a Colombian arbitration fine for breaching a government contract for mobile services.
Cisco to acquire software developer Springpath for USD 320 mln

(Telecompaper) Cisco has announced plans to acquire hyperconvergence software developer Springpath for USD 320 million in cash. California-based Springpath has developed a distributed file system purpose-built for hyperconvergence that enables server-based storage systems, said Cisco. The purchase follows a long-standing strategic relationship between the companies culminating in the launch of HyperFlex, a fully integrated hyperconverged infrastructure system, in early 2016.

India adds nearly 6 mln phone subscribers in June

(Telecompaper) India ended June with 1.210 billion telephone subscribers, up by 5.86 million from May. The total comprises 1.186 billion mobile subscribers, up by 6.02 million in the month, and 24 million fixed-line subscribers, down by 16,000 users in the month. In June, 5.88 million subscribers submitted requests for mobile number portability, according to figures from the Telecom Regularity Authority of India (Trai).
