Telia to sell Yoigo stake to MasMovil for EUR 479 mln

(Telecompaper) Swedish telecommunications group Telia has agreed to sell its 76.6 percent stake in Spanish mobile operator Yoigo to MasMovil for EUR 479 million. In a statement, Telia said the transaction price is based on an enterprise value of EUR 625 million for 100 percent of Yoigo. "The divestment of Yoigo is an important milestone in our ambition to increase focus on our operations in the Nordics and Baltics," said Telia CEO Johan Dennelind, adding that "I am happy that we have an agreement with MasMovil, which will be able to leverage a small but great and agile team into a combined unit, creating an even stronger challenger in the Spanish market." The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2016 subject to approval from Spanish competition authorities.
Telenor Pakistan to pay USD 395 mln for 4G licence

(Telecompaper) Telenor has been granted the licence for 4G spectrum in the 850 MHz band after being the only bidder, the Pakistan Observer reported, citing the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). Telenor's bid was evaluated and found to be complete in all respects. The licence will be awarded to Telenor at the base price of USD 395 million, in accordance with the schedule.

Fibre broadband reaches milestone 1 mln Dutch subscribers

(Telecompaper) Broadband via fibre networks reached the milestone of 1 million subscribers in the Netherlands at the end of March 2016, according to the Dutch Broadband 2016 Q1 report from Telecompaper. The 5 percent quarterly growth in fibre broadband connections helped the total broadband market to grow by 0.8 percent during the first quarter and reach almost 7.2 million lines at the end of March. Cable broadband also grew slightly in the quarter, and with over 3.3 million connections remained the most popular broadband technology in the Netherlands. Fibre grew to a market share of almost 14 percent, while DSL lost 0.3 percentage points during the quarter to end Q1 with slightly more than 40 percent of connections. Ziggo, the largest cable operator in the Netherlands, added only 8,000 new broadband customers during the first quarter, ending the period with just over 3.1 million customers. Its market share decreased slightly to 43.2 percent. Number two KPN (including its other brands such as Telfort, XS4ALL and Edutel) had more net additions during the first quarter with 22,000, but its market share was unchanged at 40.8 percent of all connections.

Brazil earns BRL 762.5 mln from frequency auction

(Telecompaper) Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) published in the Official Gazette the decision of the Board that approves the award of 1,469 bidding lots for the use of radio frequencies in the 1,800 MHz, 1,900 MHz and 2,500 MHz bands. These will expand the telecom infrastructure in the country, and in particular broadband.

Swisscom and Cinetrade/Teleclub get CHF 71.8 mln fine

(Telecompaper) The Swiss Competition Commission has imposed a sanction of CHF 71.8 million on Swisscom and Cinetrade/Teleclub for allegedly prohibited marketing of sports content via pay-TV. According to COMCO, Swisscom and Cinetrade/Teleclub occupy a dominant market position, particularly with respect to broadcasting national football and ice hockey events, and must offer all TV platforms in Switzerland if technically feasible an equivalent Teleclub sport offering at non-discriminatory terms and conditions.
