Samsung Group's Lee to buy $186 mln worth of shares in group firms

Feb 25 Samsung Group de facto leader Jay Y. Lee will acquire 230.2 billion won worth of shares in two group companies, boosting his stake in the South Korean conglomerate's de facto holding company amid an ongoing succession process. Jay Y. Lee is acquiring 200 billion won worth of shares in Samsung C&T Corp from Samsung SDI, which on Thursday said it is selling 765 billion won worth of C&T shares to comply with a South Korean regulatory ruling.

Samsung Pay passes 5 mln registered users

(Telecompaper) Samsung Electronics has announced that the 'Samsung Pay' mobile payment service has reached about five million registered users processed over USD 500 million in the first six months. The service showed a strong adoption rate in South Korea and the US, Samsung said. Samsung Pay was initially launched in South Korea and the US in August 2015, and currently supports credit and debit cards from 70 major and regional banks.

RPT-UPDATE 2-VimpelCom to pay $795 mln to resolve U.S., Dutch bribery probes

Feb 18 VimpelCom Ltd , an Amsterdam-based telecommunications operator, said on Thursday it would pay $795 million to resolve U.S. and Dutch probes into a bribery scheme in Uzbekistan, in the second largest global anti-corruption settlement in history. The settlement was announced in a federal court in Manhattan, where a subsidiary pleaded guilty to conspiring to violate a U.S. anti-corruption law by paying $114 million in bribes from 2006 to 2012 to a Uzbekistan official.
