Samsung Electronics Co Ltd urged a U.S. appeals court on Tuesday to find that a jury in 2014 should not have made the South Korean company pay nearly $120 million to Apple Inc for infringing three patents. Apple's "quick links" patent, which accounts for more than $98 million of the damages award, was the main focus in Samsung's latest effort to overturn major court victories by the U.S. technology company over the past two years.

Vodafone Spain passes 1 mln TV customers

(Telecompaper) Vodafone Spain announced that it's passed 1 million TV customers, up from a reported 902,000 at the end of September 2015. After adding 216,000 customers in the past year, the operator claims to be the second-largest TV provider in Spain, after Movistar. Vodafone said that it aims to continue the growth trend in 2016, with TV seen as a key feature of its offering. Since acquiring cable operator Ono and launching its Vodafone One offer, the operator has steadily added new features to the TV service, as well as conducting extensive promotions with free access to premium content. It's also offering free access for six months to Netflix after integrating the streaming service in its set-top box.

Amaysim buys Vaya for AUD 70 mln

(Telecompaper) Australian MVNO Amaysim has completed its full acquisition of Vaya for AUD 70 million, including an equity value of AUD 20 million. The price includes AUD 5 million paid in cash to Vaya vendors on completion and AUD 15 million of Amaysim shares issued to Vaya vendors over 12 months, in three equal tranches. Amaysim will also assume a total of AUD 50 million of liabilities to Optus, payable over two years.
Underwriters buy additional $658 mln in Teva Pharm shares

Jan 3 The underwriters for Teva Pharmaceutical Industries' share offering last month have exercised their over-allotment option to purchase additional shares worth $658 million. Teva, the world's biggest generic drugmaker, will use the funds to finance the cash portion of its planned $40.5 billion purchase of Allergan PLC's Actavis generics business.
