USDA DEREGULATES NEW SYNGENTA CORN TRAIT Dec. 3, 2015 Agri-Pulse reports: Syngenta AG on Wednesday cleared one U.S. regulatory hurdle toward domestic marketing of corn seeds containing a trait that is genetically engineered to resist weed killers including glyphosate. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service said it will no longer regulate the Syngenta Seeds corn trait known as MZHG0JG.

Source: WinField Farmers across the Midwest faced weed control challenges this past summer, and many were caused by weather. Rain made it difficult to get into fields in a timely manner, causing many farmers to rely on post-emergence application to control larger weeds. Weed resistance was also an issue. Farmers did find weed control success when a preemerge was possible, and when weeds could be sprayed when they were still small. read more

Source: University of Illinois Overall, seed costs have increased on a per acre basis, on a per bushel produced basis, and on a percent of corn revenue basis. As the need to reduce non-land costs continues, seed costs is one area requiring examination. Moreover, seed cost control becomes more important as the percent of corn revenue devoted to seed increases. read more
