Travel groups call on Congress to review state of airline competition

The last time Congress convened a panel to look into competition and antitrust issues in the airline industry, carriers TWA, Northwest Airlines and America West were still operating. That was more than 20 years ago, and a coalition of travel organizations thinks it's about time for another review, especially because mergers and bankruptcies have put control of more than 70% of domestic travel in the U.S. in the hands of four major carriers.

Competition Bureau won't challenge Shaw's acquisition of Wind Mobile

The federal Competition Bureau says it won't challenge the proposed $1.6-billion acquisition of struggling wireless carrier Wind Mobile by Shaw Communications. In issuing its "No Action Letter," the federal watchdog agency said the acquisition appears to pose no threat of a substantial lessening or prevention of competition.

MIT Team Runs Victory Lap in 1st Hyperloop Competition

A team from MIT won the best overall design award in the first round of the Hyperloop pod design contest, held last weekend at Texas A&M University. About 120 teams participated in the event. The MIT entry focused on speed, braking, stability and levitation. Powerful magnets placed over a conducting plate -- the aluminum SpaceX track -- will accomplish levitation in an actual pod.

BOCES students place second at auto competition; looking forward to states
