Support to Mission Analysis and Payload Planning System MAPPS

A Spanish leader company in Aerospace Engineering and Scientific services with more than 45 years of experience working for NASA and 35 years working for ESA seeks a candidate to Support Computer System Engineering Service Work Package SCO0929 Cross mission support service for MAPPS Overview The MAPPS Mission Analysis and Payload Planning System software is a wellestablished tool in support of the Science Operations Centres SOCs of the ESA Solar System missions. The MAPPS software provides a wide range of planning and simulation features, used in the different phases of the planning process for the scientific experiments and the consolidation and conflict resolution of the overall experiments planning. This work package is intended to provide a number of specialised services to support ESA in System and Software Engineering at ESAC for support to the Science Operations Centres SOCs of the current and future ESA missions, currently Rosetta, ExoMars 2016, SolarOrbiter, BepiColombo and JUICE. This support includes the development of planning and simulation tools and in particular of MAPPS, which in use by the MarsExpress and Rosetta missions and is currently being adapted for use by the ExoMars 2016 and Juice missions. This service is for software support to contribute to the maintenance and further evolution of the MAPPS software, as well as to provide firstline support to the SOCs mission planners and scientific users, based at ESAC Madrid. Tasks include Implementation of new MAPPS features as defined by the users of the different Solar System missions, following the priorities set by the MAPPS SRB Software Review Board. Providing the MAPPS software deliveries following the existing maintenance and release procedures. Improving these procedures where needed, also considering the long lifetime of the software. Verification and validation of the software and execution of the test procedures. Further evolution of the test software, e.g. extending the test cases to cover new features and improving the level of automation. Provide firstline user support, e.g. helping the user configuring and using any new features, analysing potential bugs and providing fixes. DUTIES The Payload Engineer reports to the Quantum Payload Manager and will be responsible for monitoring various performance and engineering aspects of satellite payloads. The postholders tasks will include monitoring the development, integration and testing of payload units monitoring the coherent and costeffective implementation of payload requirements from system level down to the lower application level working in partnership with satellite operators to ensure that the payload equipment development proceeds in a timely and pragmatic manner while maintaining the original innovative nature of the payload working with the industrial team to ensure that the design and performance of the payload meets its specified requirements, including software, subsystem and unit performance analysing predicted performance parameters of the payload and monitoring these throughout the project phases ensuring the adequacy of relevant operational requirements to control and operate the payload supporting payload and lowerlevel reviews, as well as supporting spacecraftlevel reviews and any nonconformance reviews regular reporting to the programme Payload Manager liaising, in the execution of the tasks, closely and proactively with the rest of the Quantum Project team as well as with other Project Teams within the Telecommunications Satellite Programmes Department. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or physics, together with extensive experience in the development of satellite payload RF equipment in the sphere of telecommunications. Systems and strategic thinking, results orientation, responsible risktaking and decisionmaking, and relationship management are considered important. Candidates should be able to work well in a team and communicate effectively. The successful applicant should demonstrate proven technical capabilities in payload engineering and payload system analysis and the capacity to apply analytical and sound judgment to resolve problems pragmatically. For behavioural competencies expected from ESA staff, please refer to the ESA Competency Framework. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset.
