BlackBridge is currently recruiting for a Calibration and Validation expert with a strong insight into payload design considerations within our Calibration Validation team. The place of work will be Berlin, Germany. Background BlackBridge is focused on providing end to end solutions across the geospatial value chain. These include satelliteoperations, ground station services, datacentre and geo cloud solutions, and worldwide satellite imagery distribution through over 100 BlackBridge partners, combined with the creation of value added products and services. In Berlin, Germany, BlackBridge performs operation of its constellation of 5 identical remote sensing satellites including all satellite control, data processing and calibration and validation activities. Responsibilities Direct involvement, together with a small team, in the calibration and validation activities for BlackBridges five satellite RapidEye constellation. Responsibility in the definition, interpretation and discussion of optical payload requirements. Support the team in the definition of tailored calibration and validation strategies. Support the team in the evaluation of system requirements and their translation into payload systems design. Requirements and Skills Insight in payload design consideration including shortwave infrared systems, TMA telescopes and the environmental impacts on image quality Experience in geometric sensor modelling Experienced in working with payload contractors including the translation of system requirements into operational payload design Experience in remote sensing imaging processes Experience in satellite calibration processes absolute calibration, relative calibration, satellite cross calibration within the constellation and with other EarthObservation platforms Experience in the methodologies of satellite image data validation SNR, MTF, ... Experience in atmospheric transfer simulations MODTRAN etc. and atmospheric correction ATCOR etc. Very knowledgeable in using data analysis tools like IDL or Matlab Knowledge of Remote Sensing applications Selfstarter, works on own initiative, but communicates herhis plans, ideas, and concepts to herhis supervisor Must enjoy being part of a multidisciplinary team Excellent written and oral communication skills, with fluency in English is essential. German knowledge is a plus, other languages welcome Desired Specific Experience University degree in physics, optical engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics or other relevant discipline with a broad expertise in the desired skills Ability to diagnose, solve or work around problems with the imaging chain e.g. data loss anomalies, detector failures or data transmission errors Strong foundation in optical payload system design and camera radiometric and geometric calibration and validation Practical experience in the remote sensing or optical industry Compensation We offer an attractive compensation package with strong emphasis on successdriven elements with rewards based on the longterm success of the company. The key persons will be integrated in the MSG Spacecraft Operations Team. Hisher tasks in the area of the spacecraft payload subsystem and also some platform routine operations and operations preparation will typically include Familiarisation with the MSG satellite design and existing operations procedures as necessary Support the conduct of routine operations of the inorbit MSG spacecraft and commissioning of MSG4. Provision of Satellite Operations Engineer SOE oncall service Performance evaluation and trend analysis to monitor the inflight behaviour of the spacecraft payload, including support to yearly and specific operations reviews for payloads and platform e.g. eclipses, manoeuvres, decontamination, etc Contribute to the maintenance of o Automated and Manual procedures, o Operations database, o Special operation instructions Other operational documentation e.g. SOE Guide, Contingency Ops Guide, etc for the preparation and execution of System Validation Tests, commissioning and onorbit satellite operations Support for the maintenance of the MSG Flight Operation Manual Satellite simulator maintenance support and provision of the necessary input to the simulator maintenance team Support to the satellite monitoring and control facility maintenance team to ensure that the facility, including the telemetry analysis tools, is always fit for its purpose Participate to the activities related to the MSG Routine Operations Support provided by the MSG satellites manufacturer and as appropriate by the GERB Instrument operational authority Analysis and investigation of operational events and anomalies particularly relating to the operations of the MSG Spacecraft platform and payload and associated ground segment elements Preparation and production of routine reports as necessary Participation in the preparation and specification of system updates Preparation of technical notes and attendance at technical meetings and reviews Preparation presentation of Flight Ops Team training material wrt SC Operations Contribution to the MTG system operations concepts for SC operations related topics. Support, as requested, the specification and reviews of the different operations related elements of the MTG system including satellites and ground segments. Support the MTG operations preparations activities, mainly at Space Segment level but including also Ground Segment aspects Support, as requested, the satellite simulator development procurement followup and maintenance and provide the necessary input to the simulator team. Review technical notes and attendance at technical meetings and reviews Participation to the definition and execution of the Operational System Validation activities such as SVTs, rehearsals and the necessary training activities for the various operations personnel prior to system commissioning. Contribute to the definition of MTG commissioning activities. Qualifications Experience Required MSG andor MTP satellites operations or geostationary satellite operations in general Routine spacecraft operations in general Operations preparation of a satellite project Operations andor design of the Mission Communications Payload MCP and the MSG satellite Geostationary Radiation Budget GERB Instrument Academic and work related requirements A University degree in an engineering discipline is required.
