This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk The Netherlands. DUTIES The postholder reports to the Head of the Antennas and SubMillimetre Wave Section of the Electromagnetics and Space Environment Division. The Section provides functional support to ESA projects and carries out technological research in the area of space antenna systems, submillimetre wave instruments and associated technologies. The frequency domain covers the range of 100 MHz to 1 THz. Within these technical domains, the postholders responsibilities will include providing support to projects, programmes and general studies participating in project reviews and performing inhouse design and tradeoffs to support projectspecific technology developments contributing to the definition of technology developments for the Agencys technology programmes initiating and monitoring RD activities covering both long and shortterm needs fostering new application areas for multidisciplinary activities, placing emphasis on innovative concepts, cuttingedge technologies and system architectures monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends and maintaining stateoftheart expertise contributing to the definition of relevant infrastructure requirements in terms of testing and numerical simulation contributing to the diffusion of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering with a comprehensive background in electromagnetic wave theory. Solid experience in antenna and submillimetre wave architectures and technologies as applied to aerospace programmes is an asset. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, applicants should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset. CLOSING DATE The closing date for applications is 9 January 2015. Primary role purpose Inmarsat requires a selfmotivated individual to act as the single point of reference within Inmarsat for the provision of expert guidance and leadership with regards to all aspects of satellite antennas. Based in London, the post holder will be required to work closely with satellite and equipment suppliers to ensure Inmarsat requirement and schedules are met. Review, assessment and recommendation of supplier data from bid through design, manufacture and test to final delivery will be a prime task. The responsibilities will include operational support to the satellite operation department in London. Key Responsibilities Support Inmarsat satellite antennas design and procurement activities Participate in satellite test and delivery reviews with particular focus on Antennas Manage contractor for timely resolution on antenna subsystem technical problems. Support new space infrastructure procurement tasks Support the London based operational team as required Be on call for the In Orbit fleet. Essential Knowledge and Skills At least 5 10 years experience in antenna design, manufacture and test from equipment to spacecraft level Solid Experience in RF design, with particular emphasis on large offset reflectors fed by a phased array feed, shaped offset reflectors and horns. A good understanding of multiport amplifiers including the individual equipment parts and the overall operation. In depth knowledge of beam forming. This will include system level appreciation of digital beamforming and the ability to generate new beams in an existing system. The ability to discuss and contribute to the mechanical and thermal aspects. Prevention by design and test of passive intermodulation and multipactor. The analysis of supplier data and presentation of performance GT, EIRP and Isolation to other groups within Inmarsat. RF test range capabilities and limitations. Provide leadership for antenna aspects in terms of accommodation, coverage and general feasibility for future Inmarsat programmes. Good knowledge and understanding of satellite design, assembly integration test. Excellent writing and reporting skills. Excellent communication skills with people at all levels of the organization.
