We are accepting applications for a fulltime fixedterm position as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Space Systems Engineering in the Space Science Center. The anticipated start date for this position is August 12, 2019. Responsibilities Engages in small satellite and Cubesat systems design and fabrication, specifically in the areas of attitude determination and control Teaches classes in space science, space systems development, and astronautical engineering Assists in the development of the space sciences curriculum Develops new courses in space systems development and astronautical engineering Designs and stages laboratories for courses in associated degree programs Develops grant proposals to facilitate research goals established by the Center Works to establish collaborative relationships between the space science community NASA, other government agencies, other universities and private aerospace companies and the MSU Space Science Center group Supports special projects i.e. grants and contract projects undertaken by the Center by providing engineering design, development, fabrication, integration, testing and operations efforts related to space systems Mentors undergraduate student research and design projects Engages in activities that promote the space program at MSU. Qualifications The Visiting Assistant Professor of Space Systems Engineering will hold a Masters andor Ph.D. in astronautical engineering, aerospace engineering, space science, electrical engineering, space systems, or related discipline. Experience in research in one of these areas is imperative and an established record of publication in refereed journals is desired. Knowledge of and experience with satellite attitude determination and control systems is required. Experience with ACS modeling and simulation is required. Competence in standard satellite modeling and simulation systems i.e. STK, 42, GMAT or others is required. Desired Qualifications Additional qualifications include experience in satellite or other space systems development or satellite mission support. Experience in grants and contract development from federal agencies is desirable. Postgraduate research experience andor experience in space systems design in either government or the private sector is also required. The candidate should have a strong engineering background, and be familiar with modern design techniques and methods such as methodofmoment and finite element analysis software packages.
