e2v Image Sensors Study The Earth's Vegetation On Board Proba-V, ESA's Newly Launched Microsatellite
2013-05-08 03:21:02| rfglobalnet News Articles
On 7th May, e2v high performance image sensors were launched into space on board Proba-V, an Earth observation microsatellite operated by ESA which has been specifically designed to chart global vegetation. The satellite was carried into orbit from French Guiana by VERTA 1, the second Vega launcher.
Earth's greenhouse gas levels approach 400 ppm milestone

LA Times: The ratio of carbon dioxide in Earth's atmosphere is flirting with 400 parts per million, a level last seen about 2.5 million to 5 million years ago, according to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. The Institution this week launched a daily Keeling curve update, showing the saw-toothed upward diagonal of rising carbon dioxide levels since the late 1950s. Isolated measurements have peaked at above 400 parts per million in the Arctic, but scientists are more alarmed at steady...
Earths core is much hotter than previously thought hotter than the surface of the Sun
2013-04-26 18:20:51| Extremetech
Using a delicious combination of particle accelerators, X-rays, high-intensity lasers, diamonds, and iron atoms, scientists have worked out that the inner core of the Earth is actually 6,000 degrees Celsius -- some 1,000 degrees hotter than the previous scientific estimate. This new data could generate repercussions in the fields of geophysics, seismology, geodynamics, and other Earth-oriented scientific disciplines.
Earth's cooling came to sudden halt in 1900, study shows

Christian Science Monitor: A reconstruction of 2,000 years of global temperatures shows that a long-term decline in Earth's temperatures ended abruptly about 1900, replaced by a warming trend that has continued despite the persistence into the 20th century of the factors driving the cooling, according to a new study. Indeed, for several continents, the increase in global average temperatures from the 19th century to the 20th was the highest century-to-century increase during the 2,000-year span, the study indicates. It's...

Study: Earth's climate change is heating oceans
2013-04-12 08:36:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
USA Today: The temperature of Earths atmosphere has been essentially the same for the past decade or so, providing ammunition for skeptics of human-caused climate change. However, a recent study found that heat absorbed by Earths oceans has increased significantly over the same period, prompting the studys co-authors to say the warming has been diverted and is heating the oceans instead of the atmosphere. The study was published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, a publication of the American...
