SiTune has announced the release of an ultra-low power mobile TV tuner. The tuner, targeted at mobile handhelds including smartphones, tablets, and USB dongles, enables viewing of terrestrial digital TV content via a low power RF solution.

T-Mobile moves up to number 2 in Dutch mobile market, number 1 in postpaid

(Telecompaper) While all three mobile operator groups posted lower revenue on an annual basis in Q3 2019, T-Mobile's decline was the smallest, pro forma for the Tele2 takeover, according to Telecompaper's Dutch Mobile Operators Q3 2019 report. The operator's service revenue market share rose to 30.9 percent, while Vodafone, which had the biggest fall in revenue in Q3, dropped to a share of 29.6 percent. KPN remains market leader, with its revenue share little changed in the past year at 39.5 percent, despite a drop in subscriber numbers.

It analyses third quarter 2019 results, both revenue and subscriber base, and compares the findings with results in the previous quarters and year. The report provides splits at different levels, from postpaid to prepaid but also from a network operator to retail point of view. Additionally it also includes a five-year forecast (both network operator service revenue and mobile SIMs) for the Dutch market.

South Africa watchdog orders mobile operators to offer free daily data, cut prices

(Telecompaper) South Africa's Competition Commission has released its final report on data prices, showing that consumers are paying more than they should for access to the internet. The Commission called the high price of data "anti-poor" and noted that networks such as MTN and Vodacom offer lower prices in other African countries where they operate. To combat these issues, the Commission said that all networks should offer prepaid subscribers a 'lifeline package' of daily free data to ensure all citizens have data access on a continual basis, regardless of income levels.
