EPSSG System Interface Engineer

For our customer in Darmstadt we are looking for a System Interface Engineer to support the forthcoming EPSSG European Polar System Second Generation Earth observation mission. Our customer EUMETSAT is an independent intergovernmental organisation founded in 1986 to establish maintain and exploit European systems of operational meteorological satellites and to contribute to the operational monitoring of the climate and the detection of global climate changes. A further objective of EUMETSAT is to provide data, products and support services to the European Copernicus information services and user communities, with a focus on marine, atmosphere and climate. EUMETSAT is governed by a Council representing 30 Member States and 1 Cooperating State. The EPSSG System Engineer will be supporting the EUMETSATs Low Earth Orbit Division LEO in the field of system engineering. Heshe will be contributing to the phase CD system engineering activities related to the specification, design and development of the EPSSG system with focus on satellite and operational related aspects within the system. The activities will primarily include overall system aspects involving the space segment satellites and the ground segment, consisting of data acquisition systems, monitoring and control systems, as well as data processing facilities and product dissemination facilities. Tasks and Responsibilities Typical activities to be undertaken include the following System ICD design and maintenance Coordination and definition of technical interfaces with the external partners and service providers Organisation of meetings and workshops with external and major internal interface partners to establish interface detailsagreements Define and maintain the system Interface documentation and baseline, e.g. Interface Control Documents ICD, Interface Management Plans IMP, Interface Requirements Documents IRD Implementation of any changes to the system model related with system interfaces design and maintenance General system engineering activities with contribution to Analysis and trade off activities System requirement maintenance activities Documentation of system design and justification Ad hoc internal reviews System level formal reviews system CDR Ground segment level activities as required Preparation and execution of IVV activities Profile of the Key Person The key person shall have the following experience and background University degree in the domain of engineering, science, or equivalent. At least 5 years of experience in the field of engineering of space andor ground systems, in the area of Earth Observation Satellites, including end to end data processing aspects. Ability to analyse systems from an endtoend perspective combined space and ground segment, understand relevant details while keeping the focus on the overall system aspects and to present the results in a comprehensible way. Capability to prepare system requirements and design documents, and to document system interfaces for complex satellite systems. The following experience would be additional assets Familiarity with EUMETSAT data dissemination concepts Experience with DOORs. Experience with CORE modelling tool The key person shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks without supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan hisher work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. Heshe shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communication skills verbal and written are important. Heshe shall be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies. Fluency in English the working language at EUMETSAT is English. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge base in spacecraft GNCAOCS system design and analysis. Specific experience on interplanetary probes or in landing on celestial bodies is highly desired. The effort includes all phases from specifications to flight support Design, analysis, verification and validation in software in the loop, processor in the loop and hardware in the loop test environments, support in the development of operational procedures and operations support. Strong understanding of first principals in dynamics, orbital mechanics, control systems, estimation, and software development Demonstrated experience with MATLABSimulink and CC Excellent leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills Preferred Experience Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field. Ten or more years spacecraft GNCAOCS design and analysis experience. Specific Lander experience including precision landing and obstacle avoidance. Specific GNCAOCS development experience of interplanetary spacecraft. Experience with GMAT, STK or similar mission analysis tools. Experience with Simulink autocoding. Spacecraft Systems Engineer
