Job description For our customer, the European Space Agency ESA, we are seeking to recruit an experienced Telemetry, Tracking Command TTC Engineer to work at ESAs ESTEC establishment in Noordwijk, in the Netherlands. Responsibilities You will be assigned to the Telecommunications and TTC Systems Technology Section within the Directorate of Technology Quality Engineering. The Sections activities cover TTC and radio relay systems and subsystems for near Earth and deep space science missions. The work includes study, design, analysis and testing of such systems and of related onboard equipment such as transponders operating in UHF, S, X or Ka bands. TTC and interorbit communication systems and equipment for near Earth applications and commercial satellites. The work includes study, design, analysis and testing of communication systems and of onboard equipment including transponders making use of spread spectrum techniques and operating in the S, C, X and Ka bands. A diverse range of support tasks is required within the above domains. These can be grouped within the following main activities Support to ESA projects on TTC related issues from early conceptual phase mission analysis to launch preparation. Participation to early mission studies conducted in ESAs Concurrent Design Facility. Studies and analyses of techniques and technologies for telecommunications systems. Technical support for the development of TTC equipment and subsystems. Simulation and handson testing in the Sections laboratory of TTC systems and equipment. Generation of technical requirements and statements of work for TTC related RD activities. Technical support for standardization activity in the frame of European ECSS and CCSDS standardization activities. The requested start of work is 1st October 2018. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have a Masters degree in Telecommunications or Electrical Engineering with particular emphasis on communication systems. Essential skills are At least 4 years experience in the design of telecommunication systems and equipment. Good understanding of modulation and demodulation techniques. Good capability using simulation tools e.g. Matlab. Some knowhow in satellite TTC systems and equipment for near earth andor deep space applications. Good understanding of the technologies used in radio equipment VLSI, ASIC, MMIC, etc. including knowledge of ASICs development tools VHDL. Some knowhow in encryption and secure communications. Some knowledge of satellite telecommunication systems based on optical technology. Additional assets are Experience of operation of RF equipment antenna, LNA, receivers, SSPAs, TWTAs, etc.. Experience in assembling and operating test equipment for telecommunications. Capability of designing, assembling and testing analogue and digital breadboards. Experience with RD activities and technology development programmes. Familiarity with the applicable space standards ECSS, CCSDS. Familiarity with industrial procurement processes e.g. SoW production. Soft skills Fluency in English, both in speech and writing, with excellent communication, reporting and presentation skills Ability to multitask efficiently working on multiple activities and projects simultaneously. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Description Software Operations Engineer in the Flight Software Systems Section, Software Systems Division, Systems Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. The postholder will be assigned as integrated support in the function of Software and Operations Engineer reporting to the Spacecraft Engineering Manager of the Euclid Project within the Science Directorate. Euclid is the second medium size mission of the Cosmic Vision Science Programme of the Agency and is devoted to map the dark Universe through the combination of imaging and spectroscopic galaxy surveys. This includes responsibility for all onboard software for both platform and instruments, as well as the development of the ground segment software. Training and familiarisation with the parent Departments mandate, processes and procedures will be provided at the start of this assignment. Duties Specific responsibilities include Supervising the specification, design, procurement and development of all software onboard the spacecraft. Monitoring, in coordination with the Payload Mission Manager, the development of the instrument software to ensure adherence to programmatic commitments, quality and compatibility with the rest of the space segment. Coordination and supervision of the mission and science operations centres development, including early operations definitions. Supervising the relevant procurements throughout their lifetime, with participation in relevant ITTs and reviews.
