Galileo Ground Operations Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities You will have the following responsibilities Ground Operations Procedures GOP preparation and update Definition of operations validation scenarios and plans GOP validation, testing, result reporting Preparation of and participation in System Validation Tests and simulations Participation in and provision of training Anomaly Reports handling and support of review boards Support of routine, special contingency ground operations incl. shift and oncall Provision of oncall service for the assigned subsystems during routine phase Offline analysis of the subsystem performance Interface to the management, ground and flight operations team Participation to internal and external meetings. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree in a relevant discipline Experience in Ground Operations for space missions Experience in Operations Procedure Preparation and Validation Security clearance would be an asset Ability to work independently as well as good communication skills Fluency in English is mandatory, German would be an asset. Coordination and leadership of a team of 7 people 1 additional analyst for PDGS and up to 6 system controllers. Definition of FOS procedures, Satellite and Ground Segment operational database and procedures, external operational interfaces and scheduling. Qualifications BSc or MSc in engineering preferable Aerospace or similar with strong IT and specifically database background. The Mission For all missions that use ESTRACK during its preparation, critical or routine phase a Ground Operations Engineer is assigned. Ground Operations Engineers are responsible for providing the ops engineering required for their missions during preparation and execution phase. During the routine phase they are the first level of escalation above ECC and Scheduling Office. Their typical counterparts on the side of ESA missions are Analysts and Spacecraft Operations Engineers, for external missions their interface is to the customers. The Challenge We are looking for an experienced Ground Operations Engineer GOE, to be located at our customers site, ESOC in Darmstadt. The responsibilities of the GOE include in particular Participate in the mission specific design of the ground segment elements Participate in the mission specific validation of ground segment elements prior to critical operations Participate in the critical operations phases for that mission Participate in the definition of mission specific ground station configuration in the ops preparation phase and after major modifications Participate in the validation of station configuration and MC tailoring for remote operations Monitor performance of ESTRACK services provided to customers and trigger corrective actions in case of degradations Initiate or conduct investigations into anomalies affecting the Ground service to the mission Participate in regular meeting with missions e.g. WORM, ICM or event driven meetings e.g. MRBs. The support comprises in particular the following tasks Setup and validation of the Earth Observation Missions, including OM LEOP support and other critical operations phases support Setup and validation of the Astronomy and Fundamental Physics Missions, including LEOP support and other critical operations phases support Setup and validation of the Solar and Planetary Missions, including LEOP support and other critical operations phases support Team member for the Galileo LEOP support. This is a full time position, starting 1st January 2014, with a minimum of 2 years duration with possible extension. Your Qualifications This position requires a person with University or similar degree in engineering or physics together with a several years of good professional experience in ground operations for spacecraft missions. Candidates must be systemminded and able to work as a member of an international and interdisciplinary team. Previous expertise of spacecraft ground operations is highly desirable. Fluent written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of French would be advantageous. This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer to work in the domain of ground station operations to support our customer EUMETSAT in the operations, maintenance and long term evolution of their ground stations. This position is based in Darmstadt, Germany and will start on the 1st of January 2014. Ground Stations Operations Engineer J2711 The Ground Stations play a key role in Space and Ground Segment operations, the Engineer will therefore be expected to acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the Ground Segment, particularly in the areas of spacecraft TTC and payload data transfer. The Engineers shall divide hisher time and expertise, according to the workload, between the various programs to support the long term evolution and maintenance of the EUMETSAT Ground Stations. Responsibilities Duties The tasks of the Engineer will typically include Investigation and rectification of anomalies reported by the operationsmaintenance team Interface with the maintenance services providers at a technical level Reporting on the performance of the Ground Stations and associated systems together with a status report of any ongoing activities Attendance at the relevant coordination meetings to plan and schedule Ground Station activities ensuring compliance with Operational activities and constraints Provision of Ground Stations support to operations during critical mission phases, pre and post launch i.e. SVT, LEOP, IOT and contingency Maintenance of operational Ground Stations procedures, databases and documentation inaccordance with the configuration management and quality assurance practices Provision of technical support during the creation of maintenance agreements and contracts Assist with the preparation or evaluation of proposals for modificationsimprovements to the Ground Stations and associated equipment Planning and scheduling the implementation, testing and validation phases of any modifications improvements.
