Schlumberger to fire 9,000 people as oil services demand slumps

Schlumberger Ltd., the world's No.1 oilfield services provider, said it will cut 9,000 jobs, or about seven per cent of its workforce, as it focuses on controlling costs amid plummeting oil prices. The company said it took charges amounting to $1.77 billion in the fourth quarter including impairment charges related to its seismic business, Venezuela currency devaluation and job cuts.

We are currently looking for a System Engineer Galileo Services to support our customer in Germany. System Engineer Galileo Services Key Tasks and Responsibilities You will have the following responsibilities Support to introduction of Galileo Early Services e.g. OS, CS, SAR and PRS and the preparation of the Galileo exploitation phase Galileo service verification and feedback to system level design and definition including the update of the corresponding documentation Responsible for service performance tests within verification campaigns, definition of test cases including test procedures and passfail criteria, execution of tests and analysis of results and provision of test reports Support to system performance analysis Satellite navigation data processing to derive service performance relevant parameters and drivers Application of engineering models and tools in support of the system verification and validation. Definition and implementation of software Support to EndtoEnd system functional interface integration, testing and verification activities with focus on the Galileo ground segment but also between Space to Ground in cooperation with system operations Review of the system and segment data packages and provision of review comments and reports Participation in Galileo System Engineering activities Presentation of results in front of the customer. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Physics or Geodesy Several years of professional experience in GNSS satellite system and segment engineering design, architecture definition and system verification and testing Detailed theoretical and practical knowledge of the satellitebased Navigation Systems GPS, EGNOS, GLONASS Deep understanding of data dissemination flow and navigation message generation and processing Deep understanding of GNSS end user constraints and GNSS applications, error models and data processing Experience in GNSS receiver operation Experience in system simulation by means of error distribution characterization and error propagation Experience in Satellite navigation data evaluation, process definition and implementation, statistics determination, report generation Deep understanding of satellite orbital mechanics, orbit propagation and determination Experience in requirements engineering, change management Software skills LinuxUNIX, Microsoft Office, Programming in Matlab, C, Bernese GNSS Software, DOORS, HTML, Shell scripting Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
