Wall Street ends down 1%, led by Apple, energy sector

US stocks ended more than 1 percent lower today after rallying the day before, led by declines in Apple shares and in energy companies, which fell with oil prices. Apple shares ended down 1.9 percent at $110.15 in heavy trading, erasing earlier gains as it launched new products in San Francisco.

British fast-fashion retailer Primark is ready to take on the world's largest clothing market, bringing across the Atlantic its strategy of selling huge volumes of garments sometimes costing less than a sandwich. On Thursday, it will open its first U.S. store in Boston, on the former site of Filene's Basement in Downtown Crossing.

Tempur Sealy International Inc., recently under pressure from an activist investor, on Tuesday named auto-industry executive Scott L. Thompson as its chairman and chief executive officer. Thompson served as Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc.'s CEO and chairman until the company was bought by Hertz Global Holdings Inc. in 2012.

The Wall Street Journal: Amazon to release $50 tablet as pricier Fire devices struggle to find buyers

The Seattle online retailer plans to release a $50 tablet with a 6-inch screen, in time for this year's holidays, according to people familiar with the matter. That would make it one of the least-expensive tablets on the market and half the price of the company's current Fire HD 6-inch tablet.

The Wall Street Journal: AOL to buy Millennial Media

AOL, recently acquired by Verizon Communications Inc., has agreed to buy Millennial Media Inc. for about $250 million, a move to grow its app monetization services. Millennial Media, founded in 2006, offers advertising and monetization services for mobile and Web-based products.
