Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is updating conditions for flying unmanned aircraft 15–30 miles from Washington, DC. As of 12:01 am EST on February 10, operating procedures will allow model aircraft, commercial, and public users to operate in outer ring of Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA) under specific conditions. SFRA rule still prohibits unmanned aircraft operations within 15 miles of Washington, DC in Flight Restricted Zone without specific FAA authorization.

AIA welcomes ambitious new CO2 emissions standard for commercial airplanes proposed by the International Civil Aviation Organization Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection in Montreal, Canada. Goal of this certification standard is to reduce CO2 emissions from aviation by encouraging integration of fuel efficient technologies into aircraft design and development, and is part of broader set of actions aimed at tackling aviation’s climate change impact.
