FAA has proposed framework of regulations that would allow routine use of certain small unmanned aircraft systems in today's aviation system, while maintaining flexibility to accommodate future technological innovations. Proposal offers safety rules for UAS under 55 lb conducting non-recreational operations. Rule would limit flights to daylight and visual-line-of-sight operations. It also addresses height restrictions, operator certification, aircraft registration/marking, and operational limits.

FAA has dedicated new $16.4 million airport traffic control tower at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. Tower is equipped with latest radar, communications, and weather technology, enabling air traffic controllers to continue to provide the safest, most efficient service. Facility comprises 117 ft tall airport traffic control tower topped by 525 sq-ft tower cab, and 7,200 sq-ft single-story base building that houses training rooms, administrative offices, and equipment rooms.

FAA: Southwest for now can use planes that missed inspection
