FAA Selects Fuels for Testing to Get the Lead Out of General Aviation Fuel

With goal of having new unleaded fuel that reduces lead emissions for general aviation (GA) by 2018, FAA selected 4 unleaded fuels for testing at William J. Hughes Technical Center. Shell and TOTAL, with one fuel each, and Swift Fuels, with 2 fuels, will work with FAA on phase-one testing, which will conclude in fall 2015. According to Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, "This work will benefit the environment and provide a safe and available fuel for our general aviation community." FAA is proposing $132,425 civil penalty against Mountain Air Cargo (Denver, NC) for operating ATR-42 airplane while it was not in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations. Allegedly, Mountain Air Cargo mechanics improperly repaired one cargo door dent at rear of said aircraft in August 2012. FAA thereby alleges Mountain Air Cargo operated this ATR-42 aircraft on 115 flights between August 7 and October 29 in 2012 when it was not in airworthy condition.
