FAA Relaxes In-Flight Mobile Rules

Travelers on domestic flights in the U.S. will soon face far fewer restrictions on their in-flight use of mobile gadgets thanks to new rules announced Thursday by the FAA. Previously, travelers were required to shut off all devices with an on/off switch until the aircraft reached 10,000 feet, which typically was about 10 minutes into the flight. Travelers also had to power down the devices for landing.

FAA Says Fliers Can Safely Use Most Electronics

Saying it has "determined that airlines can safely expand passenger use of Portable Electronic Devices during all phases of flight," the Federal Aviation Administration announced Thursday that it is advising airlines they can let fliers use their much-loved e-books, tablets and other handhelds "gate-to-gate."

Over the next few months, each airline will enact their own policies that will permit their passengers to use their own devices through an entire flight.
