FAA says hijack-a-jet app works only on simulator

When a security researcher announced last week to great media fanfare that he'd written an Android app that allowed him to hijack a jet with his Samsung Galaxy smartphone, he acknowledged an important caveat to his exploit: It had been tested only on a simulator.

FAA and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Reach Agreement on Airport Safety Violations

FAA and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) reached settlement agreement concerning aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) violations from December 2010 to June 2012 at 4 New York area airports: John F. Kennedy, Teterboro, LaGuardia, and Newark Liberty International. Under terms of said agreement, PANYNJ agrees to pay $3.5 million fine within 30 days. US FAA delays federal contract ATC tower closures

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has delayed its earlier scheduled closures of all 149 federal contract air traffic control towers (ATC) until 15 June 2013 after airports asked the federal government to reconsider the issue.

FAA Extends Tower Closure Date

Last month, FAA announced it would eliminate funding for 149 federal contract air traffic control towers as part of agency’s required $637 million budget cuts under sequestration. FAA said today that it will delay tower closures until June 15, allowing agency to attempt to resolve multiple legal challenges to closure decisions. As part of tower closure implementation process, agency continues to consult with airports and operators and review appropriate risk mitigations.
