Electric Propulsion Engineer

Mars Space is currently looking to hire two Electric Propulsion Engineers to support its ongoing electric propulsion development activities. The engineer will be responsible for the design, modelling and testing of electric propulsion technologies and especially gridded ion engines and hollow cathodes. Specifically the following tasks are required Modelling of the plasma produced by ion engines and hollow cathodes Structural and thermal modelling of these devices Definition and execution of tests aimed at validating the models Design of thruster prototypes Testing of the thruster and evaluation of the experimental results Applicants require a University degree of Bachelor, Master or equivalent in Aerospace Engineering or experimental Physics. The ideal candidate has A PhD in Aerospace engineering and at least one year experience working with electric propulsion or an MSc in Aerospace engineering at least 2 years experience with electric propulsion Knowledge of plasma physics. Familiarity with vacuum systems Good technical judgement and excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. The salarty for this job will be negotiable depending on qualifications and experience of the candidate. We are looking for candiadtes able to start in less than two months but we might be able to wait slightly longer for very good candidates. A vacancy for a Telecommunication Satellites and Spacecraft, Propulsion Systems, Product Manager has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Stevenage. The mission manage and develop a set of propulsion systems and products that will enable the transfer of either 100 kg spacecraft or 7000 kg satellites to an altitude of up to 35,786 km. Then control the vehicle attitude for up to 15 years full reliability required with no servicing! The product management approach is a further challenge due to the ongoing rapid advances in this technology domain and imminent changes in launcher capability vs satellitespacecraft need. You will lead a team of propulsion specialists to ensure coherence and continual development of advanced propulsion systems and products, aligned with and in cooperation with other satellite system specialists. Once developed you are accountable for continued successful application of the propulsion systems and products within a projects environment through to inspace performance. You would join the satellite platform team at a time when Airbus Defence and Space is advancing a new geostationary satellite development programme together with various smaller spacecraft development programmes that are demanding new ways of approaching the problems associated with both access to space and inspace propulsion. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Overall responsibility for the propulsion development, justification and maintenance activities including design, strategy, product segmentation, evolution road maps, funding sources, alignment with satellite product objectives and evolving payload capability. Management and coordination of a Product Strategy and Definition b Product Development and Improvements c Product Implementation within internal projects and external customers Maintaining a good overviewnetwork of all relevant SMEsUniversities to ensure active developments in support of the next generation of products. Actively access funding streams such as ARTES in support of development and platform activities. Monitor, support and sponsored applied research development programmes. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Extensive Project and Product experience in the Propulsion Engineering discipline with experience in both Architectural and detailed design aspects. Good industrial awareness required in order to appropriately balance technical, cost and schedule aspects of product development and upgrades. Demonstrate a capacity for leadership, networking and strategic thinking. Able to express thoughts clearly and exchange them with other architects and engineers. Tasks and Responsibilities The System Engineer is during the development process closely involved in all technical aspects and issues that occur with the realization of a design.
