China Yarn Prices: Domestic and Import Markets (Weekly Report)

Yarn prices have slightly dropped on China's polyester spun market whereas price offers were raised on the viscose yarn market. Domestic cotton yarn producers are still protected from foreign products by the rise of cotton prices on the international market. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing (Zhejiang). Prices of a large number of counts are released for spun cotton, polyester, viscose and blends. Import prices are also available for yarns from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Domestic and import yarn prices are compared. All data are available for download.

Unit prices have increased everywhere in dollar terms, declining in euro terms with however sharp differences depending on product categories and origins. A few low-cost countries have taken advantage of a double-digit increase of their shipments in many product categories, in volume terms, thanks to the sharp fall of unit values in euro terms, as reflected by our comprehensive review of EU's clothing imports per origin and HS 4-digit category with volume, value and unit price changes. Cotton yarn prices have remained very firm in the last seven days in China, where domestic spinners are protected from foreign competition by the jump of cotton prices on the international market. Spun polyester prices have today declined by contrast, in line with the fall of PSF prices. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing (Zhejiang). New tariffs threaten import growth at US container ports

While the annual Asian factory shutdowns for Lunar New Year will be to blame for a slight dip in imports at major US retail container ports this month, the National Retail Federation (NRF) has warned President Donald Trump's new tariffs on steel and aluminium could eventually have an impact on ports and, ultimately contribute to a trade war.
