We're less than a month away from the launch of the Xbox One, so it's no surprise that we're starting to see a lot more information slip out. We've already seen a complete unboxing of the day one edition, but now some sweet details from the Xbox One's manual have made their way to the internet at large. Based on this new information, the new Kinect seems like a much better fit for small living rooms.

The DualShock 4 and Xbox One gamepad have seen a largely positive response from the gaming industry. The issues from the previous generation have been fixed, and it seems we've reached the pinnacle of traditional console-style controllers. It wasn't an easy task, though. Controllers have been evolving over the last thirty-some years, and these latest models required substantial engineering prowess to outshine everything that came before. I'm excited to hold them both in my hands, but I'm left wondering where we can go from here.

Fundamentally, there isn't much of a difference between console and PC infrastructure now, but most games can't connect players across different platforms. Why is that? Why hasn't Microsoft exploited its platforms to the fullest? Redmond is finally discussing the possibility of cross-platform multiplayer, but the answers given remain unsatisfactory.

Both the PS4 and Xbox One were announced to huge fanfare, but it wasn't polygons or frame rates that attracted the most attention. Instead, DRM has been the biggest point of contention leading up to the launch of the next generation. Microsoft came out strongly in favor of an all-digital future, but ended up being sent home with its tail between its legs. Now, we're in something of a holding pattern, and that likely isn't going to change any time soon.
