Private spaceflight heats up as Orbitals Antares rocket completes test launch

Orbital Sciences Corporation has completed the first test launch of its Antares rocket, successfully deploying a dummy 3.8-tonne spacecraft into low Earth orbit (LEO). The next test flight, due in June, will see the launch of Orbital's Cygnus spacecraft, which will resupply the International Space Station. If that goes well, Orbital will begin a $1.9-billion contract with NASA to deliver eight resupply missions to the ISS.

Space Software Test Engineer CAP13S04 Positions are currently available Apr 2013 for suitably qualified software test engineers for the Independent Software Verification and Validation of satellite OnBoard Software. This work is performed at the companys premises in Malahide and involves some short overseas assignments. Tasks to be performed include Configuration of computers systems and software enviroments for simulation and test. Analysis of software and software specification documents. Definition of test procedures.br Creation and execution of tests scripts and reporting results. Creation of project reports, manuals and other deliverables. Preparation of time schedules, with estimates of effort and resources for work planning. Candidate Profile and Skills A graduate degree in science or engineering, with a proven ability to solve problems independently and methodically. Good communication skills with an ability to work in a collaborative environment. Good command of written and spoken English. At least 3 years relevant work experience. Knowledge of the software life cycle, space applications, their operations and onboard computer systems. Familiarity with scripting languages and databases. Good documentation skills Willingness to travel and collocate at project participating sites. Must possess a valid work permit for the EU Desirable Skills Familiarity or experiance with the European Space Agencys standards for software and project engineering.
