As I've reported before , Seattle desperately needs affordable, reliable high-speed Internet service, and a lot of people are pissed off that the city's two dominant providers - Comcast and CenturyLink - haven't yet made it available in all parts of town. President Obama says he stands behind any city that wants to take matters into its own hands, over those companies' objections , by creating municipal utility-run gigabit broadband networks.

Cable cut partially interrupts phone service in Gallup area

State regulators say a fiber optic cable near Gallup has been cut, partially interrupting phone service to customers in that part of northwestern New Mexico. The state Public Regulation Commission said the cable was cut early Friday morning and belongs to CenturyLink.
New cellular service in North Country

The project in Coos County will use "WiFi Extender" technology that uses existing communication towers and provides "carrier neutral" voice and data service and broadband. Great North Woods Wireless, a New Hampshire cellular communications company, is bringing wireless to the area.
